How long should it take to properly hand wash panties?

I usually soak them in water and some vinegar for 10 mins, then I spend about 5 mins on each panty scrubbing the crotch part with baby shampoo. So, am I doing it correctly? What would you recommend to get them very clean? How long should it take to properly hand wash panties?
Rub the spots with a bar of laundry soap, fels naptha or zote. then rub the spot with a soft brush until the stain is gone. How long should it take to properly hand wash panties?
wash them in warm water and detergent to eliminate the bacteria caused by feces, even if you don't have skid marks on them they were in contact with your private parts, rub them as you already are and rinse them until no soap suds is left in them hang to dry.
well if you have fancy panties then yea your fine. but if their the regular ol kind of panties the put them in the washer and save you time for something else.
until the stains c*m out! Boom!
i would recommend you throw them in the washing machine with the rest of your clothes

  • When washing up dishes by hand how hot should the water temperature be ?

and how hot should it be to kill all the germsWhen washing up dishes by hand how hot should the water temperature be ?
As hot as you can stand it. The hotter the better to kill germs. When washing up dishes by hand how hot should the water temperature be ?
The temperature of the water isn't what matters; it's how effectively you clean the dishes and the amount of time you're applying friction to the surface, which will kill germs.

You can't get the water to a germ-killing temperature and still be able to touch it; the temperature would scald your skin. If you're concerned with germs, use the dishwasher. It's able to reach temperatures that kill germs. However, you can always wash by hand in a comfortable temperature and follow with a spritz of Clorox Anywhere Hard-Surface Sanitizer; it's safe to use on food surfaces like dishes!

    Good luck!
The temperature should not be too hot for you to put your hands in the dish water. Water and detergent will clean the dished in cold water, it may take a little more elbow grease, but they will get clean. Normally, I'd make my water just a bit hotter than what I can stand, but not too hot where I can't put my hand in the water.
The water should be as hot as you can stand. I am a big fan of Dawn. I also add a couple tablespoons of ammonia which helps make glass sparkle and keeps my silver plate shiny. Ammonia also kills germs. Bleach is great, but it will discolor silver plate if you have it.
Just use an anti-bacterial washing-up liquid and make the water as hot as is comfortable for you. Your skin does not need to turn red. If you wear gloves, you can probably tolerate it a little hotter. And rinse in hot as well.
    110-115 degrees

Here is a great link that i got this information from

    http://housekeeping.about.com/od/dishes/鈥?/a>

I also buy Dawn w/ Bleach which will help kill those germs also!
Really hot,so you can feel it burning your skin through your hot, sticky, skintight yellow rubber gloves.
Fill sink hot only, with dawn, add dishes, let soak 20 min, water temp will be just right, they will be pretty much clean, just rinse
Use water as hot as possible and wear rubber gloves. One good reason is that grease tends to stay on the dishes in cold or cool water.
As hot as you can get it, wear gloves so you can tolerate hotter water.
I like mine pretty hot and I don't wear gloves..If your really worried about germs then add two tbs of bleach to the water.
Hot enough to be wearing rubber gloves to protect your hands.
As hot as I can stand it, then when you rinse them they dry much faster!
use hot water and wear gloves.
I wash mine in warm water since I don't want to burn my hands. I also use Dawn dish soap

How do I hand wash a 100% cotton, thin, brown skirt?

I have never hand washed anything.

Would it be okay if I just washed it with the rest of the dark load in a lingerie bag?How do I hand wash a 100% cotton, thin, brown skirt?
I would turn it inside out, put it in a lingerie bag, use cold water and gentle cycle. Don't put it in the dryer, hang it or lay it flat to dry. (if you MUST use the dryer do it on gentle cycle for very little time)

Edit: You can wash it with the rest of the load, but I wouldn't put it in with things that have metal buttons or zippers (jeans and pants etc.) because they might cause damage.

Also make sure you have all the closures closed on the skirt. How do I hand wash a 100% cotton, thin, brown skirt?
Fill the sink with cold water, while it's filling put in about a table spoon or so of detergent (liquid is fine).

Put the skirt in the water, and work it with your hands until the soap is throughout the garment.. If there are dirty spots rub the fabric together gently to get them out...

Drain the water, and refill with clean water, work out as much soap as you can (you may need to repeat this step)

rerinse under running water to get out last of soap...

    Hang to dry...

You can try the lingerie bag if you want.. wash and rinse in COLD water.. do NOT put in dryer....
Use cold water (Lots) and a tiny bit of washing powder and you'll be fine, rinse it well hang on a skirt hanger and drip dry.
Woolite works well, then hang dry. You could even use the gentle cycle on your machine then hang dry.
yeah but u must wash it in COLD water.hot water or warm water makes clothes schrink n hang dry

How do I hand wash and dry my 100% viscose top?

I have a 100% viscose party top that I need to wash. It says ';Hand wash only';, but I am unsure as to what I should use. Just my regular detergent, and a sink, and my hands? Should I air dry it? Lay it flat? Dry it in a dryer? Any help would be appreciated, as I am laundry handicapped in every possible way. I am also a college student, so my resources are limited beyond sinks and washing machines. How do I hand wash and dry my 100% viscose top?
Gently wash your shirt by hand in cold water and a bit of detergent. Most importantly, do not wring out the shirt. Roll it gently in a dry towel to get rid of the excess water and then remove it from the towel and lay it out flat to dry. Viscose is a type of rayon and can easily deform when wet. Even though the label says to handwash, it may actually be best to dry clean the shirt to avoid stretching or shrinking (especially if it is one of your favorites!).How do I hand wash and dry my 100% viscose top?
All you really need is a sink and some Ivory Flakes (that you can get at your local store). Use warm water and add just 1 tablespoon of Ivory flakes to it. Soak the top, try not to ring to tightly when washing the top. When you are down just air dry on a bed. Just put a towel under the top. Good luck.

There used to be these small washer-spin dryers which you could buy. Ask around.
go to a flee market %26amp; buy an old ringer washer %26amp; do them in the tub.
When I was living in an apt. I purchased a second hand apt. sized washer (it hooked up to my kitchen tap) it was cheap %26amp; lasted a couple years. Before I purchased the washer I washed some items in the sink or tub...but it was really hard to wring them out properly...so I ended up taking most items to the laundromat.
wash them normall y in the sink and then use a salad spinner to remove the excess water!

Why do my in-laws touch, rub and hold my kids toys and stuffed animals (they're also against hand-washing)?

what ewwWhy do my in-laws touch, rub and hold my kids toys and stuffed animals (they're also against hand-washing)?
yuk - but that's just me. What surfaces in response to your question, most likely from my dubious intellect filled with spoonfed biological facts and from my gut filled with [more reliable] mother wisdom, and hilariously and obviously based in my deepest alligator brain, is how animals seek to 'mark' living things, areas and habitats with their scents in order to show ownership. By 'marking' your kids' toys with their scent, they convey a unique familiarity of themselves in the form of scent to your kids. Probably pretty harmless and may, in fact, prompt some basic bonding that the kid recognizes, as well as some physiological opportunity for the kids to strengthen their immune system[s]Why do my in-laws touch, rub and hold my kids toys and stuffed animals (they're also against hand-washing)?
That is disgusting and I would quit allowing them in my home and going over there. If they are against hand washing they are probably against washing period which is totally DISGUSTING.

I'd give a can of lysol to my kid though and tell them to spray it in their direction and run when they come near them. Gross. Kids may need germs but not washing is just disgusting and can make you very sick, not immune, to things that are more serious than just a cold or other virus.

    EW.
    Wow,That is very well....EW.

First,I would invite them less often to my home, becuase that is just gross. After they leave I suggest buying some Clorox Wipes to disenfect the toys and wash the stuffed animals. So it prevents your child from getting sick.Or maybe hide the toys so they can't touch them
One theory, kids need to be in contact with a wide ranges of common micro organisms and other, in order to develop an immunity.
Perhaps they like to play with the toys. There is a little kid inside of them trying to get out. Buy a small can of lysol and keep a small spray bottle of hand sanitizer in your purse. When they reach for the toys pull out the sanitizer for their use.
..How can you be against hand washing?
    wow, that is nasty.

Wow, tough one. Unfortunately, most low-tech devices don't have support documents on-line. My search turned up nothing -- your question was consistently the top site in my various queries.

Perhaps instead of following what seems to be a fruitless quest for an instruction manual, you should post a question asking what you had hoped the instruction manual would have answered? After all, many washing machines are basically similar, and a less machine-specific answer might help you with your laundry!

Am I crazy? I love washing clothes by hand?

I just love the feeling of the suds in my hands. I love the satisfaction when a stain dissapears I love hanging the clothes, I love looking at them hanging clean, bright, and ready to dry,.Am I crazy? I love washing clothes by hand?
Yep, you're crazy. As a loon. But if you are, I am too! I don't especially enjoy washing clothes by hand, but I like machine-laundering towels.

As far as laundry goes, towels are about the only thing I enjoy doing. I like big, thick, fluffy, expensive towels, and I buy them only when they're on sale at a good price. My favorite color is ivory or cream. I wash my towels in warm water with cold water rinse, and I like fresh smelling detergent. I add a drop or two of fabric softener and dry the towels in the dryer. I take them out as soon as they're dry, and fold them. I once saw Martha Steward demonstrate how to fold towels, so I fold mine in that way. I put them in the linen closet so that all the edges are exactly the same. They look like department store towels on display! I tuck in a lavender sachet or spritz the closet with a linen spray. I enjoy the ';luxury'; of this ritual, and I feel pampered when I use my towels. I like my guests to find pleasure in using my fluffy, sweet-smelling towels.

So, we are kindred spirits in that we both enjoy the textures, smells, and end-result of our labors. It's wonderful that we are able to find joy in such simple, homey things!Am I crazy? I love washing clothes by hand?
So call me crazy too. ! I wash a lot of my tops out by hand.

Roll them in a towel,,, and lay flat to dry.

  • Is there any substitute if you have no washing detergeant on hand?

1/4 cup baking soda works great. Is there any substitute if you have no washing detergeant on hand?
Baking soda. It always works. You can use it alone, especially good if you have sensitive skin. Or you can use it in concert with dish washing soap.Is there any substitute if you have no washing detergeant on hand?
you can use a little bit of dishwashing soap...but just a little because it will suds up a lot
Yes. I would use shampoo. It is made to dissolve body oils so it should release the oils that hold dirt and odors in your clothes.
If you are talking the dishes in the sink, then any other soap will do, laundry soap for example. However if you are talking washing clothes, then there is only one, soap used in an automatic dishwasher. Both laundry soap and automatic dishwasher soap are designed without foaming agents, in other words, little to no suds in the washer. Use something like a dishwashing liquid that you use to wash your dishes in the sink and stand by for the sight gag you've seen in the movies where the washing machine overflows with foam. And last, if you have nothing else, toss in some plain old Arm and Hammer baking soda. It isn't a soap actually, but will turn the water alkaline which does help wash laundry.
Sure, any soap will do. In the olden days they used bar soap.
yes;use bubble bath or shower gel,or dish detergent

What hand lotion do you recommend for dry skin on my hands, which are very dry from washing them alot and from?

the cold winter weather? What hand lotion do you recommend for dry skin on my hands, which are very dry from washing them alot and from?
One of the best hand and body creams is Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream. It is Absolutely phenomenal. The hand cream is 17 dollars and the body cream is 25 dollars. A great thing to do is to put your hand cream on at night and wear pure cotton gloves over them. Do this 2 days in a row at night and you'll definitely see results.

Good Luck !What hand lotion do you recommend for dry skin on my hands, which are very dry from washing them alot and from?
I usually use baby lotion or vaseline lotion. The vaseline lotion smells better. I think the best thing to do is when you're going to bed, cover your hands in vaseline (petroleum jelly) or an antibiotic called Bacitracin depending on how dry your hands are. The Bactiracin you can get at walmart. It is kind of expensive so unless your hands are super dry to the point of hurting (which mine get sometimes) I won't recommend it. The vaseline is like $5. It's cheap and it's awesome. It does feel funny but it works. You can get vaseline almost anywhere.
L'occitane is the best hand lotion I've used, it makes your hands really soft and moisturized, but doesn't leave that gross greasy feeling afterwords. Its made in France, and is very good quality because its made with 20% shea butter . You can find it in The Body Shop, if you have one near you.
I would use Aveeno. It has no smell, and it works very well.

    Hope this helps :]

Should I be washing my family's white socks by hand?

I always just wash our white socks with the other white clothing and throw them in the dryer. I know that my grandmother used to scrub the socks by hand and hang them in the sun, but I just don't have the time for all that. Also, I almost never use any kind of bleach because I'm afraid it will wear down the fabric.

Is it wrong for me not to be worried about how white our socks are?

By the way, it's a looong story as to why I'm asking and that would have to be submitted under a whole different category. ;)Should I be washing my family's white socks by hand?
Grandma washed the socks and hung them in the sun cause she didn't have to go to work. She was home. Nowadays people don't have the time for that stuff. All whites get washed together. Who cares what they are? If you want them white then buy tide with bleach. wash em. dry em. bing. You're done. No offense to grandma. mine did it too. I don't think it's a big deal about the socks. Mine have a funny blackish look to them cause I bought new slippers that are black and they are staining all my white socks. Tough. I can't afford to throw them all away. If people don't like it they can buy me new ones or mind their own business. Besides. If they get that close then kick them in the head.Should I be washing my family's white socks by hand?
My mom is so southern I am probably my own first cousin. She had an obsession with white socks as well, and I used to have an obsession with aggrevating her, so I went around without shoes (but in the white socks) quite often.

She always amazed me though, because she kept getting them white.

Now I dont know about the ';Should'; part of the question. I have to admit, I wear mostly dark colored socks now because in large part I am lazy and obsessed with having some freetime, but she used to simmer mine in a pot of water and a squirt of murphys oil soap for awhile and then she washed them with the rest of the wash.

    Good Luck
this sounds goofey, just stick em in with the rest of the white wash. noone cares how white your socks are and why did she do those by hand? Perhaps to keep them from disappearing.
I don't think you should be worrying that much about socks. But if you must, then I would probably bleach them, washing by hand will not get the grime out of them. I would never put a pair of socks on that were washed bye hand...Yuck.
I never have enough whites to do a ';bleached, all whites'; load. I wash whites %26amp; light colors together. I toss the socks in with this load. I don't really give a crap about the socks not being bleached. I wear shoes all the time, so my socks aren't filthy. As for my kids, well they always walk around with no shoes. So I don't care how the bottoms look.
I get complimented on how white my family's clothes are all the time.

    This is what I do:

    One cup of detergent.

    One cup of softener

    One cup of OxiClean

    Occasional shout on bad stains

    Cold Water

    Dry on Low

When they come out of the dryer, I check them for stains. Anything that doesn't look pristine, gets tossed back in. If it goes through again without coming out to my specs, I soak it in an oxi-clean solution or sometimes a small amount of hydrogen peroxide instead of the oxi-clean.

    Works great for me.
soak them in a small bucket with oxyclean the night before you do laundry, hand scrubbing is no fun.
I throw all my socks in the white wash. If the are becoming marked spray them with some stain removal or through some napisan in the wash it has both antibacterial and stain remover in it.

Saw recently on ';Going Green'; that the dishwasher uses less water and electricity than hand washing dishes. Hand washing uses more water %26amp; more electricity reheating water than a dishwasher. Dishwasher also uses a harsher detergent %26amp; hotter water so it can sterilize dishes.POLL: which one is more efficient washing dishes from a 6 member family by a dishwasher or wash it by hand?
I'd have to say by hand if you have that many people to help do them. We're only 3 people, and my husband and daughter bemoaned the fact our current rental does not have a dishwasher. I said oh no, washing dishes by hand is not only faster for me, but the dishes get cleaner than the dishwasher. I was actually annoyed with having a dishwasher because of the dishes not getting clean, and because we all got lazy and the dishes going into the dishwasher would pile up, and when it's hot like it is now, stink.

But now, we do them after dinner, and they don't pile up. We usually don't dry them by hand, but let them dry in the rack. We live in Southern California so they're dry almost immediately.

For you guys though, you could have a line of washer, dryers, and putting away. I used to do this with my family when I was little and it was great. We actually enjoyed it because we talked and laughed and it went by quickly.POLL: which one is more efficient washing dishes from a 6 member family by a dishwasher or wash it by hand?

  • Whats it called when you start gettting random bruising and keep washing my hand

i need help i keep washing my hands and bruising and other stuff i need help someone tell me what it isWhats it called when you start gettting random bruising and keep washing my hand
If you keep having the urge to wash your hands uncontrollably then it is probably Obsessive Compulsive Disorder which can be treated with medications. Is the bruising to your hands or elsewhere? Elsewhere could be anemia, hands probably from the over washing.Whats it called when you start gettting random bruising and keep washing my hand
If you keep washing your hands, please switch to something much milder than soap, such as foaming face wash or even shampoo. Too much soap will make your hands dry, itchy, your cuticles will crack and bleed, and make you pay even more attention to your hands. Until you get on some medication, please take better care of your skin.

The bruising could be anything--is it just on your hands? A regular bruise color, or are the bruises really dark? Labs will tell you if you're anemic. There's no reason for you to be this uncomfortable and concerned: please see your doctor as soon as you possibly can.

I hope you feel better really soon.

Is using a dishwasher more cost efficient than hand washing?

I think handwashing is still the best way to go!!!!!!!!Is using a dishwasher more cost efficient than hand washing?
That depends on how often you run your dishwasher, and how full it is. In my home there are only two of us, so using a dishwasher would not be cost effective. If you have a large family it may be to your benefit. Just be sure that you don't run it when it's only half full. Same principal as a washer. Is using a dishwasher more cost efficient than hand washing?
I like hand washing because I have only 5 items to wash per day. If you have a large family then a dishwasher would be best to use. When you talk about cost efficiency you have to take into consideration the cost of the dishwasher and no cost to the hands. And, you have to consider the cost of water in your area, the problem of water shortage, and that some places have only well water so you have to wash dishes by hand there, but also you need to consider how much time you have in your schedule to wash dishes and which is more efficient to you. Some people like the dishwasher because it can use scalding hot water and hot water removes bacteria. But sometimes a dishwasher can end up smelling from mold, and also you have to first remove the food from the dishes before you put them in the dishwasher. Then you have to buy special washing ';powder'; for the dishwasher, while the liquid you would use for washing dishes by hand can be used for many uses. So all in all when you consider all aspects of ';cost'; the hand washing of dishes is by far the most cost efficient in the long run.
it is more efficient if are number of rules are followed.

it must be an efficient dishwasher, 4 star or close

    must be full before washing

do not use the dryer element.

the most important thing, in my opinion, is the ability to hook up hot water to the dishwasher, as it does not require more electricity to heat the water.

You will find some dishwashers wont allow this, so check before you buy.

Hand washing uses about 15 litres of water, and needs rinsing as well. If you have a lot of dishes, you may have to drain and refill a couple of times. An efficient dishwasher will use approximately 15 litres and wash and rinse up to 14 places settings with cutlery. Your hands did not even get wet, a pretty good trade off.
    no.

You should fill up one sink with soapy water, wash the dishes, fill up the other side to rinse the dishes. ( or if one sink, just drain the soapy water and fill with clean)

If you are looking to sanitize, you should use the dishwasher.
    Sure is!

When washing dishes by hand is there any health risks when you don't rinse them after the soap wash.?

In other words, can the soap scum be harmful? When washing dishes by hand is there any health risks when you don't rinse them after the soap wash.?
Yes, by not rinsing thoroughly, your leaving bacteria and the soap behind which are causes of diarrhea and vomiting at the best. Why would you leave this behind? If your not sure after you rinse with the hot water and get all the food off the dishes then give them a final rinse with cool water. It breaks the soap down better than hot or warm. I know it sounds weird, but it's true. I hope this hint will help you. When washing dishes by hand is there any health risks when you don't rinse them after the soap wash.?
In that small of an amount, soap isn't poisonous, but it tastes nasty. It could make whatever you eat/drink from the dish next time have a bad flavor. It could also make you foam at the mouth, lol. (not really!)
no - soap is what eliminates the bacteria / germs from the dishes. Soap dosn't contain anything harmful.

how do we wash our hands after handling chemicals and how do we clean down surfacesI work in a dry cleaners we have just had a refit and they have not put a hand washing sink in is this legal?
Your employers toilet facilities are required to have hand cleaning facilities, or they are breaking the law.

This may also be true of the room for handling chemicals.

Talk to the local Health and Safety Executive.

I work in a dry cleaners we have just had a refit and they have not put a hand washing sink in is this legal?
they must install hand washing facilities, health and safety fact sheets on all the chemicals used including the solvent in the machine. You should have gloves and eye glasses for the spotting area with a medical kit with eye glass and solutions to wash out splashes. you will not have running water near the machine but you must have some close by. There's much much more.
It doesn't sound right, have you had the chance to speak to a manager about this?
No water tap at all? Not sure , consult health and safety. How you wash floor etc.

When washing dishes by hand, should you rinse with hot or cold water?

While cold water will rinse off the suds faster (hot water creates suds), hot water is necessary to continuing to sanitize your dishes and kill bacteria. This website indicates that if you use cold water, you have to add bleach to it.When washing dishes by hand, should you rinse with hot or cold water?

have you people wash clothes by hand before? it is really a hard work, but i can only says that it only workout you upper body and it takes you long time before you be able to burn some calories, may be after washing clothes, do a lot of ironing, then vacuum and mop the floor(with many bending down for hard reaching area and stretching.) for a big area, then wash a big car, do it everyday should be good enough.Do you think washing clothes by hand in the bathtub will give me a good enough workout?
No washing clothing by hand will not give you a work out at all.

Though u will burn mroe clories doing this then useing the washing machine. the amount of effort needed to wash clothing by hand isnt raise your heart rate up for an extended period of time and it isnt giving you any resistance for your muscle to work hard to accomplish a movment.

The only benefit this will provide is the few extra calories burned, and also a lot more water waste then just using the machine.Do you think washing clothes by hand in the bathtub will give me a good enough workout?

In the movies and TV the doctors shut off the tap with their elbows or have a button on the floor. If you are wearing hospital scrubs the sleeves are usually loose and will fall back into place themselves.Hand washing what to do last?
I never thought about it before, but I would think that you'd turn on the tap first. I'll bet sleeves are filthy things, aren't they? This is gross to think about especially when you have to remember that they might need to be pulled back down and that they're dragged across all sorts of surfaces. Maybe you need to do it first to keep from dragging them across a filthy sink surface?

Hand washing powder and machine washing powder?

whats the effect if i use a hand wash for a washing machine?Hand washing powder and machine washing powder?
Hand-washing powder produce too much foam which will make it difficult for the machine to clean your clothes properly or the rinse be thorough. machine-washing powder mostly use an enzyme to eat up the grime to clean your clothes, so don't be misled by the impression that a lot of studs in the wash means it'll clean better.Hand washing powder and machine washing powder?
You will be overflowing with bubbles. Washing machine and dish washer detergents have an ingredient that reduces the foaming action. Never put liquid hand soap or dish detergent into a washer or dishwasher unless you want to foam clean all your floors.
Dishwashing liquid that is used for dishes in the sink would not work in the electric dishwasher because it would be too easy to use too much of it, and would cause too many suds, clogging the machine and not allowing it to wash or rinse the dishes. I have heard that a dime size amount of dishwashing liquid can be used in electric dishwashers with good results, but why risk ruining the wash cycle and possibly your machine as well?

Electric dishwasher detergent on the other hand, is made very differently, it's main ingredient is bleach and some other stuff. It does not later, and it requires very hot water in order to work effectively

Important of hand washing and how this is properly done?

Hand washing helps eliminate germs more than using hand sanitizers.

Proper way to do it at least what I learned at school

    1. Get a paper towel and turn on the faucet. Have the water warm not hot.

    2. Use a good soap and lather up. Washing in between the fingers, and clean your nails with an orange stick or rub them on your palm. Make sure you get back of the hands as well.

    3. Rinse hands having the water run down your hands.

    4. Use a towel to dry hands be sure not to let water run back up your arm.

    5. Use another towel to turn off the faucet.Important of hand washing and how this is properly done?
Hand washing is probably the single most effective means of protecting your health. Proper washing with ordinary soap kills and removes up to 99.5 of germs and viruses. You don't NEED antibacterials if you simply take the time to wash correctly.

Get your hands wet and work up a good lather, distributing it over all surfaces up to the wrist. Continue rubbing until the skin is clean and slippery. then rinse thoroughly and either air dry or use clean paper or cloth towelling. It's really not that hard.Important of hand washing and how this is properly done?
By frequently washing your hands you wash away germs that you have picked up from other people, or from contaminated surfaces, or from animals and animal waste.

What happens if you do not wash your hands frequently?

You pick up germs from other sources and then you infect yourself when you

    --- Touch your eyes

    --- Or your nose

    --- Or your mouth.

One of the most common ways people catch colds is by rubbing their nose or their eyes after their hands have been contaminated with the cold virus.

You can also spread germs directly to others or onto surfaces that other people touch. And before you know it, everybody around you is getting sick.

The important thing to remember is that, in addition to colds, some pretty serious diseases -- like hepatitis A, meningitis, and infectious diarrhea -- can easily be prevented if people make a habit of washing their hands.

When should you wash your hands?

You should wash your hands often. Probably more often than you do now because you can't see germs with the naked eye or smell them so you do not really know where they are hiding.

It is especially important to wash your hands

--- Before, during, and after you prepare food,

--- Before you eat, and after you use the bathroom,

--- After handling animals or animal waste,

--- When your hands are dirty, and

--- More frequently when someone in your home is sick.

What is the correct way to wash your hands?

--- First wet your hands and apply liquid or clean bar soap. Place the bar soap on a rack and allow it to drain.

--- Next rub your hands vigorously together and scrub all surfaces.

--- Continue for 10 - 15 seconds or about the length of a little tune. It is the soap combined with the scrubbing action that helps dislodge and remove germs.

bullet Rinse well and dry your hands.
Extremely important. Especially after using the restroom because you can get hepatitis A if you ingest your crap by having it on your hands while you eat...even the smallest, invisible ammount. There are a whole host of other diseases you can get as well including the flu.

Use hot water that is just short of burning your skin off. Soap up about 4 inches above your wrist and rinse off. Repeat if necessary, and use the towel you dry your hands with to turn off the water (remember, you just touched those handles with your dirty hands to turn them on.)

Question about washing dishes by hand, details below?

the more dishes you have in the sink, the longer its gonna take to wash them?Question about washing dishes by hand, details below?
Well, yes. Consider using paper plates.Question about washing dishes by hand, details below?
    Obviously silly pants!
Not necessarily. By the time you are midway through your sink full, some of the food stuck on the dishes will come off alot easier because they have had time to soak.
i hear ya on this one. i have to do dishes so i tend to clean as i go. when i am making dinner i fill up my sink and as i get done using something i toss it in the sink by the time i am done cooking dinner the only dishes i have left are the ones we have eaten off.
Best way for washing dishes by hand: When done eating, immediately rinse them in cold running water, stack them on the counter. Then (if you have a dishpan) or sink, fill up with straight hot tap water and dish soap. Put the glassware in first, wash, rinse (with hot tap water), place in dish rack. Then do other dishes, till pots/pans are done. You can let them air dry, or take a dish towel, and dry them, put them away. By rinsing, and soaking the dishes, it will make it a quicker, easier job of washing them. Hope this helps. Take care.
    Yes ; )
    YES
    naturally
not necessarilly! but you should have done the dishes as they were used
yes, that only makes sense to me.
no because they will have soaked the food off them and wash quicker..
    Yeah =)
not really . if you wash the big objects first , pots pan麓s this gives you more space to work. then cutlery with sponge a little water , rub all the cutlery with detergent ,once you have given them a good sponge clean rinse them with very hot water , they will dry very quick . then dry properly and put away , do the same with the plates . remove all left over , again with sponge and detergent, good rub . then with very hot water rinse well , then dry straight away . . glasses with detergent then the same very hot water , the thing about dishes the more you let them pile up the more frighting they look to clean
I prefer to wash my dishes by hand and you know there clean . The dishwaher takes an hour alteast to wash them. And it wont take that long to do a sht load of dishes.

How do I go about doing that? Do I just use water? Or do I fill my tub with hot/cold water sprinkle some of my detergent in it and wash it that way, then hang dry? Thorough directions would be great! THANK YOU ALL!Hand washing nylon?
If it say hand wash then that is what you should do just put some warm water into a bowl, sprinkle in a little detergent and just gently squeeze it all around give it a good rinse and if you can hang it out to drip dry, or if you can take it to be dry cleaned, you could try putting it on a cold wash low setting and slow spin sped

Do dishwashers really use less water than washing dishes by hand?

cause my mom uses it everyday and says that it does but i kinda find that hard to believe. anyways, is it true?Do dishwashers really use less water than washing dishes by hand?
yes. dishwasher is using all of the water and doesnt waste anything. except before putting the dishes in the dishwasher, you should scrub large pieces, not wash with water.

its possible to save water while washing with hands. get everything wet and then use water only to create more foam with the sponge. there is no need for water to run while you scrub the plate. when you are finished, rinse all of it with water.

dishwasher is also good at something else: washing at high temperatures. except if you can stand the temperatures of 70 degrees of celsius, with gloves on.Do dishwashers really use less water than washing dishes by hand?
I've been told it uses less because it uses the jets from a variety of angles, as opposed to holding a plate under the faucet and turning it this way and that to rinse it off.

A lot depends, not only on the size of the machine, but also how many dishes you're doing at a time.

Obviously, if you only fill it half full, it's a waste. So, while it's really good for families, it's not so great for a single person, unless they wait until it's full.

Thus speaks a person who was taught from an early age that doing dishes by hand was good for you! (Builds character, and all that.) %26lt;g%26gt; But, actually, the advice of doing dishes has been repeated to me by my doctor -- not for the caharacter, but because I tend to get sinus infections and doing the dishes by hand is a better use of hot water than just steaming your head.
As surprising as it is dishwashers CAN actually use less water than washing by hand, as long as the dishwasher is only run when full.

However, this depends on the water efficiency of both the dishwasher and the person washing the dishes by hand.

As a rule of thumb, if you are a bit wasteful with water when washing the dishes yourself, run the dishwasher on a full load.
rarely is something like this ';always true';.

some folks pre-wash the dishes, then, when they're clean, put 'em in the dishwasher.

in that case, they're mostly using the dishwasher to clean off the germs.

    and it uses more water.

on the other hand, if you clean off the table, put the stuff in the dishwasher, and start it, it clearly uses less water than washing by hand in most cases.

however, i suppose i could wash by hand, in a dish pan, with a rinse pan, and use less water than the dishwasher, but i'm not at all sure i'd really like to eat off those dishes.

there are an awful lot of cases in this world where there just isn't a yes or no answer.
It depends on how many dishes you do and how you wash them. I've seen so many people hand wash their dishes before putting them into the dishwasher. That seems counterproductive.

Well, I know there's a water-saving cycle, and many people won't run the dishwasher until it is crammed full, which means they are not running it more than once a day or even less. Then again the amount of use depends on the number of people using it.

My hubby and I don't use our dishwasher. Instead we do dishes by hand. I fill the dishpan with dishwater in the morning and we reuse it until the last dish is washed in the evening.

If you fill another basin with rinse water, then that also saves on water, although we don't reuse the rinse water as we do the dishwater.
I think it depends on the size of the dishwasher; and a good way to conserve water is too fill up one side of your sink about 1/4 up with water, and putting some dish detergent in the running water, and then wash your dishes in that. It's useful because you're using the same water again and again. This is what I do.

    Answer mine too!

This is something your dishwasher maker would like you and your mom to believe. Rubbish. We use less than 10 litres of water a day for 5 people and that wouldn't run a dishwasher for 5 minutes.
dishwashers use more well actually it depends on if you waste water while washing dishes but most the time dishwasher uses way more

If the water going into the drawer is a bit too slow emptying into the drum then you might try taking the drawer out and giving it ,and the hole the drawer sits in, a good clean- the previous owners might not have ever cleaned these out and they are prime places for old powder to build up and slow things up a littleMy new second hand washing machine help???????
I have a washer with a detergent drawer. The water enters the washing machine by flooding the detergent drawer and then flowing into the washer drum. Sometimes some water is left in the detergent drawer. Start the washer up and try it again.

if it is a full load then it will be a dish washer as you could get the full dinner service in and the saucepans and it takes less water than a sink providing it is a fairly modern one
By hand; it takes less water, soap and energy.
A modern dishwasher uses 9 litres of water, whereas a typical sink will hold at least 20 litres of water. It will also heat the water more economically than your hot water heater at home. As long as you fill the dishwasher before you switch it on, a dishwasher will actually pay for itself over the course of a few years.

We actually enjoyed it because we talked and laughed and it went by quickly.POLL: which one is more efficient washing dishes from a 6 member family by a dishwasher or wash it by hand?

i need help i keep washing my hands and bruising and other stuff i need help someone tell me what it isWhats it called when you start gettting random bruising and keep washing my hand

Does anybody have any tips for washing dishes by hand?

i feel like every day it's such a drag to stay on top of them...any tips or systems for staying on top of the dishes?Does anybody have any tips for washing dishes by hand?
While you are in the kitchen clean up as you cook. If some pots pans or bowls can be washed ahead of time do it.

Always use hot water as hot as you can stand it. It just melts the dirt away.

Rinse in hot water also, it drys faster than cold.

I use a mesh puff scraper, if you know what I mean.

If you have a small space I just put the hot water and soap on the scraper wash and stack in the sink then rinse a bunch at a time.

If you can't get to the pots until after dinner always rinse them out or soak them to make cleaning easier.

I never leave the kitchen when I'm cooking. I toss out empty boxes, and put food away and wipe up any spills. Usually when dinner is over I just have plates and silver ware left, and one or two pans. 5 minutes and I'm done.Does anybody have any tips for washing dishes by hand?
when ever i would go to the store i would sometimes buy the plastic cups and silver ware cause the kids had a bad habit of not using the same glass so i would just put them on the counter to use,, then when they would come back i would tell them find your cup u had earlier and wash it out and use it,, i know what u mean it seems like u are in the kitchen all day doing dishes,, then i usually do my dishes when i am cooking supper what ever i dirty up while cooking dinner or what ever it may be,, that way i wouldn't have a ton of dishes when dinner was done i wasn't haveing to wash all the big pans or whatever i may had used to prepare my meal,, well i hope this might help u,,
Rinse what you use when you put it in the sink. Encourage anyone else you live with to do the same. I recommend a hot soapy sinkful of water. Find clothes or spinges that you like the feel of and that fit your hands. I wash cups and glasses, then plates and bowls..... then silverware. Then I do the pots or pans. I always rinse in the hottest water I can stand to touch. Things dry well. Another little hint is to keep some hot soapy water; wipe things up and wash while you are cooking, it reduces what you have to do after a nice dinner when you don't really feel like messing with it.
I know how you feel. So I decided to buy all different size plastic disposable dishes, cups and cutlery too. It has eliminated the amount of dishes I have to wash daily. Of course I use regular dishes too. But for myself, and the kids I stick to the disposable ones. They are really very inexpensive. If you buy them by the carton I think you get a bigger break on the price.

When I do a lot of cooking and have many pots to wash, if I am to tired from cleaning up after all is done. I fill the pots with water (so that the residue of the food does not stick to the pots), and put them in the oven so that they are not an eye sore. Then I wash them at my leisure or the next morning.

While cooking wash some items as you go along, there will be less of a build up. Like if your baking then wash the bowls immediately after you pour the batter in the pan. You get the idea.

If you have a pot that has food stuck to the pans and are hard to wash off. Put some water in it, and bring it to a boil. Then wash them. It just slides off. No need for scrubbing.

I also hate Ironing, and buy mostly wrinkle free items.

    Hope I helped
when you are cooking a meal, have the sink full of sudsy water and clean up as you go. If I bake, I wash up what I can when the oven is in use, works well. My favourite solution I used is to buy a dishwasher!
    water, soap, sponge, towel
I find washing up a pain, but something that always has to be done.

I rinse everything off first. I spray them with an orange, or baking soda spray, fill up a container with dishwashing liquid and I wash each thing stack them up in the sink, then i rinse them off with water. I never fill the sink up, your just washing in dirty water.

Also if I have been cooking chicken or something that is quite on the nose, i use a bit of bleach to scrub, i hate the smell.
I always like to wash the dishes straight after we have finished our meal, this way the food comes off pretty easy and you dont have to scrub it off.

I usually wash up three - four times a day, if the kids have used every glass in the cupboard for drinks during the day I always try to get them washed before dinner so I only have the dinner stuff to wash and dry and pack away
I feel your pain - if you can afford 8 dollars or so a month, and you are not that intested in being environmentally friendly - buy paper plates at a price club and you will be happy you did. You will only need to wash silver ware, pots and cups, and thats pretty easy!
Rinse them if need be %26amp; stack them in sink til time to wash. Unless you have lots of dishes. (That way it saves water by filling wash basin once.) And cold water rinses the soap off the dishes faster. As long as you wash in soapy hot water the rinsing in cold is fine. I've been doing it that way for a long time %26amp; never have we gotten sick from it. Plus, the dish soap bottle would say that you have to rinse in hot water only if that was necessary. Our water leaves much to be desired as it dries out your skin/hair badly. (horribley highly chlorinated -wonder when/if they are gonna go back to the regular system, anyway...) Dishes are fun... think of it as great excersize for your arms %26amp; keeping metabolism up! :)

I, also, will wash as I go when baking %26amp; sometimes for big dinners. Have the soapy water ready %26amp; going %26amp; doing them up as you bake/cook.

Dish washers use electricity %26amp; sometimes don't wash that well %26amp; dry stuff on the dishes that don't rinse off. :/ Plus, you have to rinse/wash some of it as you go anyway. Ours doesn't have the cold water rinse, either.
Try to wash them as soon as you are done using them.
wash them as you use them. please check out my website to book travel and earn extra cash http://www.debbiestravelstore.com/
use dawn soap and soke the dishes
at least rinse them as soonas you finish...then, when they have piled up (daily) soak in hot soapy water for 15 minutes and wash/rinse easily.

Ch uses the most amount of water, washing dishes by hand, or using a dish washing machine?

The first word in my question should have 'which'.Ch uses the most amount of water, washing dishes by hand, or using a dish washing machine?
    Actually, they are both wrong!

In actuality, any dishwasher made in the last 15 years uses less water than hand washing dishes (as long as you are not the type that washes the dishes first, then uses the dishwasher), as long as you wash full loads and not 1/2 loads. You can save energy by not using the dry feature or the water heat setting.

Older washers use a lot more waterCh uses the most amount of water, washing dishes by hand, or using a dish washing machine?
Dishwasher, hands down. When you wash in the sink, you should have a sink full of soapy water and a sink full of rinse.

Also, there is a heating element, and a pump motor that use electricity.

    But they sure are convenient!
Doesn't matter to me. I love my dishwasher!
Smart E is very wrong. A dishwasher uses less water, detergent and hotter water. Dishes washed in a dishwasher are sanitized.

Do you need hot water for hand washing? If you do have hot water, what are the temperature specifications?

in child care center.Do you need hot water for hand washing? If you do have hot water, what are the temperature specifications?
You don't always need to wash your hands in warm water, but it can be a good idea. I have two sons; a three year old and a four year old. The only time my wife and I have them use warm water is when we are sitting down to eat. Otherwise, cold pretty much does the trick. We usually go into the bathroom and turn the hot water on. While the water is warming up we will call the boys in, they stand and wait while mommy or daddy gets the water ready by turning the hot down and cold up to get a warm mix. We also try to mix the water at a fairly low water pressure, so as not to splash and create a mini water park. Generally for adults when preparing food, the warmest you can stand it is recommended. That's not to say ';as hot as possible';; you don't want to hurt yourself. For little ones, though I think it's best to go longer on the soap and not hurt them at all. Children are much more sensitive in their little nerve-endings, so what's warm to you may be unbearable to them. Twenty seconds of rubbing with soap will kill the vast majority of germs. And that's the one I emphasize with my boys.Do you need hot water for hand washing? If you do have hot water, what are the temperature specifications?
    It makes it more comfortable.
you need the warmest possible without burning. it for health reasons to kill most bacteria.

What uses more water: a dishwasher OR washing dishes by hand?

I understand this is not a simple questions to answer. It all depends on what type of dishwasher, model, how fast the water flows when you wash by hand, etc., etc.

But on average, are there any stats on how many gallons/minute or something each method uses on average?

ANAGah.What uses more water: a dishwasher OR washing dishes by hand?
Older dishwashers use 8-10 gallons, most newer dishwashers use 6 gallons, unless they are Energy Star rated and those use 4 gallons. An Asko dishwasher is generally regarded as the most efficient and uses 3.4 for a normal load and only 2.4 for a quick wash.

How you wash dishes by hand determines your water usage. If you fill one side of the sink with water and the other with rinse water, that uses less water than rinsing dishes with running water. The green couple (from the third link below) found they used 2 gallons of water to wash by hand and their dishwasher used 6.

If you rinse dishes before putting them in dishwasher that would increase your usage too. What uses more water: a dishwasher OR washing dishes by hand?
Like you say, there's lots of variables. BUT:

For the AVERAGE dishwasher with a full load, it's roughly equivalent to washing a full load in a sink full of water. I was surprised to learn this. If you're someone who washes the dishes with running water, STOP. Washing with running water uses about 10 times as much than a dishwasher or full sink.
If your dishwasher is about 8 years old or newer or Energy Star rated.,chance's are it uses less water than washing by hand.
That depends on if you wait until the dishwasher is completely full or not. It will use the same amount of water to wash one teaspoon as it will with full load.
I would say it depends on the load of dishes u have to wash
I wash up in 4 litres of water, (approx, 3/4 gallon). Work out the maths.

How do old people feel when washing clothes by hand?

like... back ache or something? How do old people feel when washing clothes by hand?
Their arms should hurt abit. And I'm sure if they did not have the strength to stand up while washing the clothes, they still will probably hurt while they are doing it squatting. I'm just guessing. How do old people feel when washing clothes by hand?
Thats sort of a 'dumb' question. My wife prefers to wash her undies by hand. She says they last longer and dont get damaged by the washer or dryer.

    ps...shes not OLD

  • What do you think of the ';Hand Wash'; setting on washing machines?

It really is pretty darn good. I've watched it from start to finish and it is very delicate. The water comes in before the drum turns. The drum turns slowly a few times and that is all. It is more like a ';soak and stir'; after that the water is drained and the spin is very rapid and short. No problem there. What do you think of the ';Hand Wash'; setting on washing machines?
I have both hand wash and a delicates setting and use them constantly Every extra feature you can get on a washer or dryer is worthwhile. What do you think of the ';Hand Wash'; setting on washing machines?
use on delicated garments and fabrics with woolite or mild soap

I put hand washing powder in my washing machine.....?

what will happen? will it be ok??I put hand washing powder in my washing machine.....?
i'm sure that's happened to us busy mums once in a while try putting on a extra spin or rinse at end of wash, good luckI put hand washing powder in my washing machine.....?
you will get lots of foam and may even come up into the soap dispenser or not drain even. (more lightly if you are doing 60 degree or above wash)

Let it run through the cycle, then leave the washing in and add some more Fabric conditioner, NO MORE WASH POWDER and put on again if your machine has an extra rinse button select that and put it on again to get all the soap powder out of your clothes

When you have done this run the machine through empty on a hot wash and this should remove any remnants of the powder from your machine and the waste pipes.
It will bubble up a lot more than your auto washing powder. Auto powder has less bubbles - you may find that bubbles come out of your soap drawer etc now you have added the wrong one. Can you cancel the cycle and put it on a rise, to get rid of the powder in there quicker? You may have to rinse a few times to totally get rid of it.

    Good luck.

    :)
You may find yourself cleaning up a lot of suds.

Don't put normal dishwashing soap in a dish washer either, for the same reason.
It will be fine, but I wouldn't actually wash clothes with it, as they probably won't come clean.
It may foam up a bit more than usual but it should be ok.
    nothing it,s should be ok

    just add your washing power
You risk getting too much suds, which may cause a flood.
hey yes it Will be miss u so much dear Friend from sam xxxxxxxx

Which is more energy efficient: washing dishes by hand or running a dishwasher?

I have a dishwasher but rarely use it. I hand wash my dishes 2-3 times a day. Would it be more energy efficient to wait a few days to fill up the dishwasher and run it during the night 2-3 times a week?Which is more energy efficient: washing dishes by hand or running a dishwasher?
It is more energy efficient to wash dishes by hand of course. It take gallons of water to wash by machine. If you wash dishes by hand and don't let the water run continually as you are washing, you will same tremendously.Which is more energy efficient: washing dishes by hand or running a dishwasher?
Washing dishes by hand saves energy. Also if you are a bit careful, you can save water as well. While washing dishes you can also collect the waste water and use it to flush toilets and water plants. This will also save gallons of fresh water. In case you are using the dishwasher, make sure you always run it full!

Conserving energy and water is very important for a better environment.
It would be more energy efficient to wash the machine in the dishwasher. this is because the dishwasher does not waste as much water as the continuous washing and letting the water run by hand washing them. we have tried this and seen that it does conserve energy
It depends on how much water you use doing dishes by hand. Me, I am EXTREMELY wasteful with water doing dishes by hand. But if you can wash all your dishes with a couple gallons of water, then do them by hand.
It would definitely save water and likely save energy, because you would be heating less water.
