Do dishwashers really use less water than washing dishes by hand?

cause my mom uses it everyday and says that it does but i kinda find that hard to believe. anyways, is it true?Do dishwashers really use less water than washing dishes by hand?
yes. dishwasher is using all of the water and doesnt waste anything. except before putting the dishes in the dishwasher, you should scrub large pieces, not wash with water.

its possible to save water while washing with hands. get everything wet and then use water only to create more foam with the sponge. there is no need for water to run while you scrub the plate. when you are finished, rinse all of it with water.

dishwasher is also good at something else: washing at high temperatures. except if you can stand the temperatures of 70 degrees of celsius, with gloves on.Do dishwashers really use less water than washing dishes by hand?
I've been told it uses less because it uses the jets from a variety of angles, as opposed to holding a plate under the faucet and turning it this way and that to rinse it off.

A lot depends, not only on the size of the machine, but also how many dishes you're doing at a time.

Obviously, if you only fill it half full, it's a waste. So, while it's really good for families, it's not so great for a single person, unless they wait until it's full.

Thus speaks a person who was taught from an early age that doing dishes by hand was good for you! (Builds character, and all that.) %26lt;g%26gt; But, actually, the advice of doing dishes has been repeated to me by my doctor -- not for the caharacter, but because I tend to get sinus infections and doing the dishes by hand is a better use of hot water than just steaming your head.
As surprising as it is dishwashers CAN actually use less water than washing by hand, as long as the dishwasher is only run when full.

However, this depends on the water efficiency of both the dishwasher and the person washing the dishes by hand.

As a rule of thumb, if you are a bit wasteful with water when washing the dishes yourself, run the dishwasher on a full load.
rarely is something like this ';always true';.

some folks pre-wash the dishes, then, when they're clean, put 'em in the dishwasher.

in that case, they're mostly using the dishwasher to clean off the germs.

and it uses more water.

on the other hand, if you clean off the table, put the stuff in the dishwasher, and start it, it clearly uses less water than washing by hand in most cases.

however, i suppose i could wash by hand, in a dish pan, with a rinse pan, and use less water than the dishwasher, but i'm not at all sure i'd really like to eat off those dishes.

there are an awful lot of cases in this world where there just isn't a yes or no answer.
It depends on how many dishes you do and how you wash them. I've seen so many people hand wash their dishes before putting them into the dishwasher. That seems counterproductive.

Well, I know there's a water-saving cycle, and many people won't run the dishwasher until it is crammed full, which means they are not running it more than once a day or even less. Then again the amount of use depends on the number of people using it.

My hubby and I don't use our dishwasher. Instead we do dishes by hand. I fill the dishpan with dishwater in the morning and we reuse it until the last dish is washed in the evening.

If you fill another basin with rinse water, then that also saves on water, although we don't reuse the rinse water as we do the dishwater.
I think it depends on the size of the dishwasher; and a good way to conserve water is too fill up one side of your sink about 1/4 up with water, and putting some dish detergent in the running water, and then wash your dishes in that. It's useful because you're using the same water again and again. This is what I do.

Answer mine too!

This is something your dishwasher maker would like you and your mom to believe. Rubbish. We use less than 10 litres of water a day for 5 people and that wouldn't run a dishwasher for 5 minutes.
dishwashers use more well actually it depends on if you waste water while washing dishes but most the time dishwasher uses way more
i think it doesnt
