One disadvantage to hand washing is that it is difficult to rinse away all of the soap residue. However, some items embellished with lace, for example, cannot endure much agitation and if the washer does not have an extra-delicate cycle with minimal agitation or spin in the rinse cycle, it is better to hand wash. Delicate knits, like cashmere, will loose their shape in the wash and will require blocking and stretching to restore their original size when machine washed, even on delicate. Further, some manmade fibers such as rayon, loose their body and will fade in the washing machine. Why would you want to hand wash? A washing machine does ALL the work.
hand washing takes too much time, do you have that much time? really?
You're hands will get sore from hand washing. But you would save water with the hand washing. Hand washing takes time. But at least you can make sure you know what goes in and out. Machine Washing uses a LOT of water that isnt nessisary. But it does save time and your body energy. It does waste energy from your house and rises your energy and water bill.
I hand wash a lot of my clothes. It makes them last longer, keeps the colour nice and the the body of the material full. If you want your clothes to look like they did when you purchased them you should hand wash them. Try it, you will see what the difference is. You should especially do this with any clothes with elasticity ( bra's or waitstbands)
