When hand washing dishes, are you saving more water than you would if you put them in the dishwasher?

how much water does a dishwasher use anyway? I am renting a house and the unit is faily old looking, maybe from the 90's, so i doubt it has any water-saving feature. I've noticed though, that with a sink full of dirty dishes, im still using a lot of water...so...what to do?When hand washing dishes, are you saving more water than you would if you put them in the dishwasher?
It is cheaper to use the dishwasher. If your concerned about saving don't use the drying cycle. When hand washing dishes, are you saving more water than you would if you put them in the dishwasher?
Typically, if you run the dishwasher when it's full and without the heat cycle at the end, it saves water and energy over washing by hand.
